As the air gets colder, the excitement of fall sports is still lingering. This fall season kicked off the FHS school year with its teams and sportsmanship. The season consists of eight sports: football, cheerleading, field hockey, volleyball, tennis, cross country, waterpolo and dance. Several teams have celebrated significant wins, while others grew from tough losses.
Football had a strong season with many wins showcasing their talent and teamwork. The team has played various schools including Palo Alto, South San Francisco and Santa Clara. Football games are considered an impactful addition to the school year, with the variety of different themes and spirit in the student section creating a vibrant atmosphere. Both JV and varsity have recorded consistent performances throughout the 2024 season, with steady participation and engagement from students and community members.
Even though Sideline Cheer is considered a winter sport, they cheered in every pep rally and football game this season, while also having practices twice a week. Each practice involved working on and rehearsing a new stunt or dance.
“This cheer season was very good,” FHS varsity cheerleader Lotem Behar said. “I think we have done very amazing in rallies and our routines, and when we cheer on the sideline.”
Similar to cheer, the FHS dance team, the Featherettes, has performed at every home football game and pep rally, while practicing four times a week. Both the cheer teams and the Featherettes showed persistent effort this season. However, the fall season does not conclude these sports as the winter season awaits more action for both teams.
Additionally, the 2024 Girls Field Hockey team closed out their season with four wins from varsity and two from JV. The team had practice three times a week and games twice a week. The games may have been challenging, but the team persisted through each match.
The Girls Volleyball team had a rougher season, with JV winning five games out of 17. Practicing five times a week, they tackled each game with focus and teamwork. Despite facing strong opponents, they played with skill and resilience, reflecting their enthusiasm for the sport.
Tennis wrapped up their season with strong performances and growth. Varsity had remarkable performances, finishing with 10 games won out of 14. The team saw steady improvement, suggesting a bright future for the seasons to come.
Cross country also succeeded this autumn, sending four runners — Roee Biluar, Matthew Gray, Roger Paulson and Evelyn Valencia — to the Central Coast Section championships.
Both boys and girls Water Polo teams demonstrated excellence this season — with both varsity teams finishing with 12 wins. The teams worked hard to improve their shots, swim techniques and sportsmanship, making each game their best work. They played schools like Homestead, Santa Clara, Los Gatos and Los Altos. Each player has definitely improved and learned from their past mistakes. FHS junior and varsity water polo player Yaron Hammer has been playing since freshman year.
“This sports season was a little disappointing, because we didn’t win for a while, but the last game we played in, we won against Mountain View,” Hammer said. “So that was kind of fun. Finally, winning.”
The FHS fall season ended on a high note, with all teams demonstrating skill, hard work and impressive results. From strong league finishes to individual achievements, the season was filled with memorable moments that showcased the dedication of FHS athletes. The energy and momentum from these fall victories have created an atmosphere of excitement as the school looks ahead to the winter season.
