As the school year comes to an end and summer break approaches, students make plans with their families to celebrate their year-long efforts. The warm weather calls for a great opportunity to soak up the sun and revitalize oneself. In this case, a trip to the beach would be the best way to do so.
Beach trips are one of the most popular leisure activities during warm weather, where friends and families gather to have fun and enjoy the beautiful waves of the blue ocean. However, with the fun that the beach can bring, it is important to prepare ahead of time to ensure that the fun lasts all day long.
To start off, packing is a big deal in and of itself, as the items that are brought can greatly affect how the day at the beach turns out. The most sensible product to bring is sunscreen, to keep everyone’s skin safe from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Not bringing this can lead to sunburn, which can be extremely painful and inconvenient. Other items such as sunglasses, hats and sun umbrellas can aid in keeping cool throughout the day.
On the topic of keeping cool, another highly advised tip is to bring a cooler filled with chilled snacks and beverages. Though many may not anticipate otherwise, there is more to beach days than simply tanning. At this time of the year, even near water, temperatures can reach dangerously high levels. Having a way to refresh oneself is a great way to relax during these times. Eat well and stay hydrated, as it is vital for everyone, every day — whether one just tans while laying on the beach or engages in more rigorous activities such as beach volleyball.
“If you are going to the beach all day, find a beach that’s near food, because you will get hungry and you will get thirsty,” FHS senior Nina Behrens said.
In addition to the packed items, it is also important to look out for signs, so one can be aware of what they will put themselves in. Things such as checking the weather, wind and UV intensity are highly advised, so one can know what to expect prior to being at the beach. According to The Southern California Beach Club, when heading to the water, it is best to stay with a group of friends or family, as not only is it more fun, but it ensures one is not alone in the event of a serious situation; there have been fatal events such as sneaker waves in recent years at beaches nearby.
On a less serious note, the Bay Area has a plethora of beaches to visit. Not only do they have beautiful views, but the commute there is not too long, being around an hour or two. A convenient and breathtaking experience is something hard to pass on.
“Specific ones I recommend would be Black’s Beach and Twin Lakes,” Behrens said.
With this in mind, one can be able to travel to the beach and have fun, while staying safe and prepared.
