After a long eight years, fans are relieved to hear that Blumhouse Productions is planning to strike theaters with their new film based on the media franchise, “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” There is a lot to expect with this upcoming movie, including the complex backstory of the video game, creepy visuals and frightening jumpscares.
The horror film will follow the plot of the first game in the video game series. A security guard starts working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a fictional restaurant and arcade business in the game. While working his first night shift, he starts to have unexplainable encounters with the animatronics in the building.
As stated by Scott Cawthon, the creator of “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” the movie will most likely abide by the main plot points in the game. One example is the bite of ‘83, in which a young boy gets bullied into putting his head inside of an animatronics mouth, and other deaths that are crucial to the development of the story.
According to producer Jason Blum, the movie will be released on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023. In April of 2015, Warner Brothers disclosed that they were in the works of producing the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie, but due to several setbacks throughout the years, there have been many alterations to the original idea. In February 2023, Blumhouse Productions decided to finally commit to making the whole movie covered by Universal Pictures, while Warner Brothers canceled their work on the project.
It has almost been a decade since Cawthon published the first video game. Since then, the series has accumulated many players worldwide.
“I’ve been playing [Five Nights at Freddy’s] for about three years,” FHS freshman Nicole Marquez said. “I hope that [the movie] follows the videogame story because it’s what got me interested.”
The film will star Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, the security guard, Matthew Lillard as William Afton, the founder of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and main antagonist, Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Mike’s younger sister, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Monroe, a police officer and Kevin Foster as Freddy Fazbear, the main animatronic antagonist. There are many other secondary characters that were announced in the official movie trailer on YouTube posted by Universal Pictures, but as of right now, the hope is that the actors will bring their best show to the screen.
As stated by Blumhouse, the movie will not only be available in the theaters, but also on the streaming service, Peacock. So, horror movie fanatics should grab their popcorn, and beware of the spine-tingling terror.
