As the school year wraps up, so do the spring sports at FHS. The spring sports include volleyball, tennis, swimming, baseball, track and field, badminton and softball. Each team experienced highs and lows, but regardless of the outcome, they persevered to become better and to improve themselves.
Although the boys’ varsity volleyball team faced a challenging season, they showed determination throughout the season, winning 10 games out of 27. Meanwhile, the JV volleyball team had a great season, winning nearly all their matches — 18 out of 24 games.
The varsity and JV tennis team players enjoyed their season, learning new skills and playing fun practice matches against each other. While the season came with its losses, the players persevered.
The badminton team showed strong commitment and attended many matches against other schools, putting in a lot of work during practice. Students enjoyed being on the team, even though the team did not do well.
The swim team had a season filled with teamwork, dedication and achievements. One of the big highlights of the season came during the end of the season. This achievement happened when the boys’ varsity relay swim team won the league title — an exciting and well-deserved victory that showcased their hard work.
Varsity baseball wrapped up a very successful season with an impressive 15 wins out of their 20 games. This season, the team showcased strong teamwork and great skills. Although the JV team faced a unique challenge; even though only 11 schools created a JV team, they still came away with 5 great wins.
Track and field had a relatively rewarding season, with both JV and varsity boys earning several wins across many events. Included in these are FHS sophomores Roger Paulson, running the 3200-meter race, and Leo Puga, doing the triple and long jump, who both won JV league finals in their respective events. FHS junior Ryan Lehto won varsity league finals in discus, and placed third for shot put. FHS freshman Dhruv Prasade broke the official FHS freshman record for the 400 meters and won league champion in the varsity 4×400-meter relay race. Many were able to achieve their personal goals in their respective sports, which was exciting for the coaches.
“I believe we’ll go all the way to CCS, semifinals, and finals,” FHS wellness-based support specialist and cross country and track and field coach Alejandra Flores said. “Just looking into how certain individuals are doing and what is projected for them, I believe that we’ll be able to get that far, which is really exciting.”
Varsity softball faced tough competitors, finishing the season with three out of 12 wins. The team showed steady improvement, expanding their skills as the season continued.
The FHS spring season wrapped up with lessons to be learned and room for growth across many teams. Throughout the season, many athletes and teams broke their records, achieved their goals and saw their dedication pay off. As they progress during the off-season, the teams prepare for a stronger and even better return next year.
