Today, “Outer Banks” fans all over the world clutch their popcorn in suspense for the release of the fourth and final season of the show. On Oct. 10, five of 10 total episodes of the new season will be released on Netflix.
“Outer Banks” is about a group of teenagers living along Outer Banks, North Carolina. The teens are part of the “Pogues,” or the working-class, and rivals with the “Kooks,” the upper-class. The show begins with the friend group of Pogues starting a quest to find member John B’s (Chase Stokes) father who went missing. As the story unfolds, the group discovers that a monumental treasure is tied to him. The teens chase this lead, managing love, friendship and betrayal all while barely escaping the police and cracking mystery after mystery.
“My favorite thing about the show is how exciting it is,” FHS junior and “Outer Banks” fan Kirana Mahanto said. “It has a lot of suspense and plot twists.”
With the adventure, romance, drama and thrill, “Outer Banks” has something for everyone. Despite its flashiness, the show also details deep rocky friendships and family relationships, increasing its relatability with teens.
“The characters definitely all have different personalities, but I really like their relationship with each other,” Mahanto said. “It shows a friend group that has a lot of problems, but they eventually work it out.”
Despite all this, not all fans believe that the incredible final season they hope for will come to fruition. With season three seemingly concluding the mystery, viewers are left in the dark about the topic of the next signature “Outer Banks” adventure. Another cause of added skepticism is the downward trend in fans’ opinions of each season of the show. Season one is a fan favorite with season three coming in last, according to a poll from Episode Ninja. Mahanto shares this opinion and she also remarked that the third “felt very repetitive.” Fans may wonder if the final season will follow suit, unsure if it will be a worthwhile watch.
“To be honest, I don’t think there needs to be another season, but it’s another new adventure so I’m excited to see what they will add,” Mahanto said.
Unlike the third, hopefully the final season will shock fans with its resolution. With the incredibly emotional scenes of season three, many are hoping to see the Pogues live their happy ending. In an article from Netflix Tudum, Executive Producer Josh Pate piqued curiosity by describing their plans for the end of “Outer Banks.”
“We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be, if we would be lucky enough to get it that far,” Pate said.
Fans can tune in on Netflix for part one of the season on Oct. 10 and part two on Nov. 7. Tomorrow will reveal the final mystery of “Outer Banks”: what will happen after the characters’ mystery has already been solved?
