Walt Disney Productions has fulfilled childhoods with laughter and enjoyment for the past century. In 1937, Disney released the animated fantasy film “Snow White” which was the first ever fully animated feature film. The magical film is based on the 1812 German fairy tale of “Snow White,” written by the Brothers Grimm.
In the film, The Evil Queen orders the murder of her step-daughter Snow White because she is envious of her beauty. To her surprise, Snow White is still alive and lives in a cottage with the seven dwarfs named Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. The Evil Queen takes matters into her own hands, disguising herself as an old hag, and bringing her step-daughter a poisoned apple. The poison apple forces Snow White to fall into a deep sleep which can only be broken by a true love´s kiss.
“I really liked the dwarfs. They were really funny. My favorite one is Grumpy,” FHS freshman Grecia Campos said.
On March 21, 2025, the live-action adaptation of “Snow White” and the Seven Dwarfs is coming to the big screen. It was originally set to come out on March 22, 2024, but was pushed back because actors went on strike. They decided to go against studios over streaming residual payments, limiting artificial intelligence in productions, better wages and health coverage. The remake is being co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Marc Platt Productions.
“I think it’s cool and I think they picked good actors,” FHS freshman Nora Whelan said.
American actress and singer, Rachel Zegler will portray Snow White. Zegler has acted in many well-known movies such as “West Side Story” in which she played María and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Her Prince Charming will be played by none other than Andrew Burnap. Burnap won a Tony Award for Best Actor for his role as Toby Darling in the 2019 Broadway Production of “The Inheritance.” The Evil Queen will be portrayed by Gal Gadot who is best known as Wonder Woman and for her first appearance as Gisele Yahsar in “Fast & Furious 4” and more recently in “Fast X,” the most recent installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
“The cast is really pretty. I like the actor that’s playing Evil Queen,” Campos said. “I am excited and I would probably go watch it with my friends.”
These fan-favorite actors will have people rushing to theaters the second Snow White is released. The fantastical and magical trailer has already been released and is available to watch on YouTube. Do not forget to mark your calendar because this is a movie you do not want to miss.
