On Friday, Aug. 27, 2024, Paramount Pictures posted the trailer for the movie of Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The movie features the original movie cast as well as featuring new characters like Dr. Gerald Robotnik, Maria, and most importantly Shadow the Hedgehog. This trailer single-handedly was able to hype the sonic fans and make them eager to wait for the movie to be released. And when the movie was released, it succeeded everyone’s expectations. And today, I’m going to review the Sonic Movie 3.
Warning: Sonic Movie 3 Spoilers are bound to be present, please be advised.
Shadow the Hedgehog is one of the important characters in the movie because of his backstory and his power level. He is shown to be a great foil to the Sonic Trio shown in the Scenes of Tokyo and the Underground Base where he’s shown to easily fight off Knuckles, Tails, and even Sonic. Besides his Chaos Control and his air shoes, the movie gave him his own motorcycle and his own gun which is accurate for Shadow to have. His backstory is different compared to his in-game backstory, shadow was born and tested in an underground base instead of a ship and Maria died to the explosion of said-base instead of a gunshot from a cop. We also get to see Shadow and Maria bonding a lot more with them watching movies, skating around the base, and moon gazing and showing how Shadow was heartbroken when Maria died.
Another thing I liked about the film is how this movie included a new take on other characters such as Eggman’s grandfather, Dr. Gearld Robotnik. Dr. Gearld is shown to be a support character for Dr. Eggman, the supposed main antagonist in the movie. Eggman and Dr. Gerald were great comic relief characters and enjoyable to watch because of their family bonding activities. Like the time they were doing an entire dance as they were moving through the lasers in the secret vault was completely golden. Also both of the characters having the same voice actor makes their interactions way funnier than I thought it would be.
The reveal of Gearld turning out to be the main villain was expected but a great moment for the movie. Especially when Eggman decided to turn against his grandfather. It was a great fight, showcasing their high tech against each other, Eggman getting a spanking session, and even more funny moments. Eggman getting the last laugh with the help of Tails in the end of the fight by using Super Sonic’s fur and flinging Gearld to get vaporized instantly by the surrounding chaos energy was funny and even more hilarious when you compared his death in the games where he just got executed by the military. His death scene is personally the most funniest moment ever in the movie.
One of the peakest moments we see in the movie is Eggman’s sacrifice because of how emotional the scene was and he was willing to die just to save the world because he can’t rule it. He even live streamed this just to tell Agent Stone how much he meant to him because Eggman liked his lattes and he knows that Stone was the only person who fully cared about him. With Eggman’s final line to Stone being “It’s been a real drag…thanks for nothing” as the ship makes a huge explosion, this scene challenges even other sacrifices like Caesar’s death from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
In conclusion, I think the Sonic 3 Movie is a great movie. Fantastic new characters, no non-sonic related sub-plots, funny moments, and Live & Learn. If you haven’t watched the movie, you should definitely give it a shot.
