Marvel fans all over the world are stoked for the newest release, “The Marvels.” Releasing in the U.S. on Nov. 10, 2023, it will incorporate events from many other Marvel productions throughout the years. “Captain Marvel,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Wanda Vision,” “Secret Invasion” and many more. “The Marvels” movie also features a new trio — an alliance between Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. The movie stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, Zawe Ashton and Seo-Jun Park, and is directed by Nia DaCosta.
Leading into this movie, the audience knows from the “Captain Marvel” movie that Captain Marvel has taken back her identity from the villainous Kree and took revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. Elsewhere, Ms. Marvel puts on a set of mysterious bangles, which were sent to her family in New Jersey by their extended family in Pakistan. When she does this, Ms. Marvel can manipulate cosmic energy in a way that connects her powers with Captain Marvel. Not only that, but Captain Marvel’s powers also become entangled with those of her niece and SABER [a space station operated by Nick Fury] astronaut, Monica Rambeau. Together, this trio is known as “The Marvels.”
The Marvels will be an interesting merger of many different storylines. Marvel fans here at FHS are ready to see this.
“I’m excited to see how [‘The Marvels’] interact and just like how to get together. Ms Marvel was one of my favorite TV shows and it’s really cool to see both universes collide, and it’s pretty great,” FHS senior Saisujan Kotakonda said. “I think this movie is definitely going to help set up for the new Avengers [movie] for the MCU phase five.”
“The Marvels” movie will likely answer many questions and fix many loose ends in the Marvel storyline. This includes the significance, if any, of the Kree-Skrull war, Nick Fury, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau in the future of the Marvel universe.
“They [MCU] sort of fell off between the end of Endgame [and today], and now however I think they’ll pick back up with the new characters and everything,” FHS junior Ritvik Setty said.
That being said, not everyone is enthusiastic about this new release. After all, it is a follow-up to “Secret Invasion,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Captain Marvel” and “WandaVision” all jam-packed in one hour and forty-five minutes of run time, making it the shortest film ever produced by Marvel. The complicated lore could mean that only a limited audience can actually understand this movie. Also, “The Marvels” will be the third film in the second phase of the Multiverse Saga, and the previous movies that have been released in this phase have not been doing as well as other movies and TV shows from other phases.
Nevertheless, Marvel fans are still anticipating the release. The movie remains an important opportunity for the character development of many different people. “I think it [The Marvels] will definitely improve Carol Danvers’ character development because the first movie was good, but it was a little hard to follow. So I hoped that they could do better this time with her being in more movies, and I hope they also like to develop Monica Rambo’s character since she was mainly in WandaVision and I think she did pretty well,” FHS senior Aliyah Hopkins said.
Nobody knows how “The Marvels” will perform at the box office or how fans will receive it, however, fans can be sure that they can get ready to sit back and relax as they watch the newest installment to the second phase of the Multiverse Saga.
