Most people, in general and at FHS alike, call themselves music lovers. Whether it is on a walk, at a coffee shop or at school, people listen to music all the time.
The majority of the FHS population starts their day off with music. It can be through an alarm clock or a playlist they put on while getting ready for school, but for many, it determines how their day will go. Listening to music in the morning can make people feel as though they are starting the day fresh with good vibes and may find it easier to focus while doing their tasks.
“I listen to music definitely daily,” FHS sophomore Sade Miller said. “On a good day, maybe seven to nine hours a day.”
A lot of students deal with workload stress throughout their day from balancing school, after-school activities and social life. Listening to music helps people deal with different situations and many use it as a way to take a break from a busy day or to distract themselves from different hardships.
“I listen to music a lot at school and sometimes, while I sleep I listen to music,” Miller said. “But honestly I just listen to music whenever I don’t have to talk to people.”
People listen to different types of music in varying situations. A long-standing topic of discussion is whether or not to listen to music while doing homework. There are a few different stances on this topic. Some say that listening to music while doing homework is very distracting and only makes it harder. On the other hand, some say that listening to music helps them focus more and without it, they would not be able to concentrate. Lastly, some listen to music without lyrics while studying and usually listen to more natural noises such as the sound of the rain or waves on the beach.
“I usually listen to music when I’m reading, like instrumental stuff,” Miller said.
Listening to music also has a big impact on people. Many individuals tend to listen to music that reflects their feelings and emotions, which can help them deal with tough situations. Because of the wide variety of songs and genres, it is easy for people to find one to connect to. Those who struggle with social interactions can find a stronger connection with a singer or a song because they relate to the lyrics of the song.
“I think no matter what you’re going through, there’s always some songs that capture that emotion and understand what you’re feeling,” Miller said.
There are not many things that people relate to as deeply as music and that is very unique. Another special quality of music is how a specific song can remind someone of a specific era or place they have been. It plays a big part in people’s memories. Evidently, listening to music helps with current issues and has a continuous impact on a person’s life.
