With finals week creeping up quickly after Thanksgiving break, students prepare for their exams before their holiday break. Finals can be intense as the semester comes to a close, so finding resources and tips to lift a fraction of the stress off is crucial.
Having to study for so many classes at once can be overwhelming as there is a limited amount of time. Keeping an organized physical schedule you can refer to, in order to manage your time more efficiently is helpful to students.
“I keep my work organized by having a planner, or using my notes app where I can set goals for myself for the day so that I can keep track of what I need to get done which puts my mind at ease a little,” FHS senior Melissa Bravo said.
It is crucial to be able to manage your time with so many exams in a short amount of time. Having a physical version of your schedule will keep you accountable for procrastination, whether it’s on your notes app, post-it note, or on a planner.
Some students do not have the time to get help in person with their busy schedules. Having online resources that are accessible on any device can be an extremely helpful studying tool. There are various platforms you can use to study each subject which you can find on YouTube which align with similar topics taught in class. A common platform students use is Khan Academy.
“One of my favorite websites is Khan Academy, I use it all the time for multiple subjects, especially for my AP classes,” Bravo said.
Khan Academy is a well-known educational tool that has videos and explanations for a wide range of classes and subjects. The tool is completely free and easily accessible on its website, so when students are struggling to understand concepts, there are tools online that can make studying easier.
While there are many tools accessible to students from home, FHS provides resources to seek when students need guidance during finals such as a tutoring program called Students for Success. The program runs after school hours, where students can get help on various subjects from other students or designated tutors. The classroom is welcome to all students to study and seek help with academics.
“There are students who come to SFS and work for hours, all the students collaborate and it’s a beautiful environment,” Miao Carroll, SFS supervisor, said.
SFS is a useful resource to students who need help after school, it is a great place for students to receive feedback on any school work or essays. Students should not overlook resources given by the school as they can be a very useful time around finals season.
Finals week can fly by if students fully utilize the resources around them. While studying within the content teachers give students is helpful, seeing another perspective of the subject whether it is online or in person is crucial in preparing for finals.
