People like having fun, whether through going out with friends or enjoying a lengthy walk in the woods. However, nothing beats witnessing a loud concert. Although listening to your favorite artist at home might be entertaining, concerts offer a unique experience that listening to music at home cannot. Concerts, with their loud music and flashing lights, can stimulate dopamine levels and increase endorphins in such a way that society tends to be drawn to.
“I went to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour,” FHS freshman Arshpreet Ruprah said. “The atmosphere was definitely very hyped up; everyone was so energetic and they were all singing along.”
A major factor that contributes to a memorable concert is the overall atmosphere. Of course, sound quality and production contributes to this, but what matters more is the energy of the crowd and the performer. Audiences who share a connection with the performer often result in a high energy act, increasing the enjoyment of the crowd. If the performer does not connect with the crowd, or is just idly standing and singing, it is not engaging.
Stage presence does not always come from adrenaline-filled performances and high energy. It can also come from the performer themselves loosening up the atmosphere, whether it be at the start of the show where they crack a joke, or simply talking to the crowd. That action can quickly create a relaxing vibe, which then leads to a powerful and stress-free performance afterwards.
As mentioned before, audio and stage production can greatly boost the performer’s act. With dazzling lights and dancing on stage, performers can create a beautiful experience for their audience. Loud music blasting through the speakers with the crowd singing along in unison forms a lively atmosphere.
“The most memorable aspect of the concert was singing along to the songs with my friend,” FHS freshman Alison Simms said. “When going to a concert, my main expectation is that the crowd will be loud.”
The final takeaway from a great concert is the amount of passion that both the audience and performer share, and the atmosphere it creates. People go to concerts to watch and enjoy their favorite artists perform and listen to the music live; and they stay to reciprocate the same love and energy. In order for a concert to be the most impactful, it is not enough for one to just witness or have the experience, but also to be a part of it. The sense of belonging is what keeps people coming back time and time again to these dazzling shows.
