High school prom is branded as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but is that a good thing? Prom is a special event that everyone should experience at least once, even if it is not something that you would normally attend.

Oftentimes, people shy away from attending school events such as prom or homecoming due to the pressure of having a date. However, I personally believe that these dances are more fun with close friends, or even by yourself. It is truly an unforgettable experience having meaningful encounters with other people, even if they are not your close friends. It is important to put yourself out there sometimes, and these dances are the perfect opportunity to do that. Not having a date should not stop you from having fun either on your own or with your friends. Furthermore, it can also mean that you have opportunities to connect with other people at the dance, or strengthen the bond with those around you. Making memories at prom is something special, and a time you can look back and smile on after your high school years. Prom is something that has become synonymous with the American high school experience, and certainly is something unique. Even without a date you can still make the most of prom, do not let the lack of a date stop you from having a good experience.

Making memories at prom is ultimately one of the biggest reasons to go. Whether it be with a date, partner or friends, prom is sure to be an unforgettable night. Getting out of your comfort zone and dancing with your friends, taking photos and getting glammed up is something special. The process of getting ready and seeing everyone else also dressed up is a lot of fun, even if it is not something you would typically do. While the $80 price tag is certainly hefty, when taking into consideration what you get out of prom, it is worth the money. Additionally, there are ways to go to prom even if you may not have funds to do so. Ultimately, you are paying for the experience and unforgettable memories that come with prom. While it may feel scary and overwhelming at times, especially if you are a senior, those memories are forever. High school is only once, and four years go by fast. Prom helps mark a moment in your high school career, a memorable experience unlike any other. Those memories are what make prom worthwhile, and why I believe that everyone should go to prom at least once in high school, regardless of their feelings towards it.

At the end of the day, it is your choice to go to prom or potentially regret skipping out on something incredible.
