Senior Prom 2024: A fun night to remember

For the past four years, the class of 2024 has seen each other at school nearly every day. While there are some school-organized events at which students are able to see each other in a different environment, prom is the most prominent and exciting event. Senior Prom is the night that students get to dress up and have a fun time with their peers before graduation.

“There are some times where I don’t even recognize one of my students and they check in and I see the name and I’m like, ‘oh my god, that’s you!’ because everyone just looks so adult and professional,” ASB advisor Jeffrey Kakes said.

This year, prom was held at the Tech Museum, with two separate large areas. The top floor was the dance floor, and the bottom floor had tables, food and some Tech Museum activities — these accommodations required a lot of preparation by ASB.

According to Kakes, prom is one of the largest events ASB has to offer, due to the amount of planning. The reservation of the venue needs to be made, while also competing with other schools wanting one for their prom. ASB must also manage the budget. The budget needs to cover the venue, food, DJ and more. Budgeting can be dificult and stressful, as there is no guarantee of how many tickets will be sold or whether ASB will turn a profit.

“It’s a scary thing, knowing that you’re making a commitment between 25 and 35 thousand dollars a year ahead of time and just hoping that you’ll be able to pay it back,” Kakes said.

With many different attractions and areas in the venue, students were never bored. The Space Exploration, Adobe Wetbrush, Solve For Earth and Body Motion exhibits were all open for students to visit.

“The exhibits were cool because it wasn’t like other proms,” FHS senior Jamie Wong said. “We had different options of what we wanted to do so we didn’t have to be dancing the whole time.”

Many explored the floors to experience different environments throughout the night.

Getting ready for prom is often the highlight of many people’s nights. Many students such as Wong began preparing for Senior Prom three months prior. It is a common tradition to schedule a full day of events consisting of getting ready with one’s friends, taking pictures and getting dinner before the dance. Then, students are able to get together at the end of the day and have a memorable night with their peers.

Full of different exhibits, snacks, dances and groups, the 2024 Senior Prom successfully hosted hundreds of FHS students. As seniors prepare for graduation on June 6, many experience nostalgia for their time in high school. By spending a night with friends, students can leave the school knowing that their time was spent well as they made memories, met people and had fun.
