As we all know, our planet is experiencing intense global warming. It is caused by overuse of our resources, making our earth’s environment very fragile. As humans take up most of the land on this planet, it is our responsibility to maintain its health. Global warming concerns are increasing, therefore, many are switching to more eco-friendly lifestyles. People now take shorter showers, use less electricity and switch to electric cars. On average, one person’s carbon footprint does not have a high impact globally, but there is one outlier — Taylor Swift.

While we all look up to A-list stars, seeing their harmful lifestyles raises concerns and makes us question our perceptions of them as people. The recent news of Taylor Swift’s carbon footprint has shocked many of her fans as they question her use of resources.

Taylor Swift has faced criticism recently for her environmental impact, particularly concerning the use of her private jet. Swift had a total of 170 recorded flights in the first seven months of 2022, according to Yard, a sustainability consultancy. This number is especially controversial as she was not currently touring at the time. Her shortest recorded flight was revealed to be 36 minutes, leaving people shocked. These statistics have led to fans questioning the celebrity they look up to the most. To put into perspective, the extent of Swift’s carbon emission amounts to “1,184.8 times more than the average person’s total annual emissions,” according to Yard. This exceedingly large number alone should be enough to question Swift’s character.

Recent speculation of Taylor Swift’s relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce has significantly increased the artist’s criticism. Swift’s frequent flights from state to state to attend football games and performances has contributed to her extensive use of the plane. Obviously, this lifestyle has been criticized by many, as she is harming the earth by her outrageous use of flights. Taylor Swift has taken 12 flights in 2023 to see Kelce, which is an outrageous 12,622 gallons of jet fuel. This use of her plane due to a new relationship can be seen as inconsiderate as she continues to use her wealth in harmful ways, as jet fuels emit significant amounts of carbon dioxide, which is detrimental to the environment.

As Swift’s fame continues to rise, her actions continue to harm our environment every day. As a celebrity with a fanbase that ranges from middle aged adults to kids as young as 7 years old, Taylor Swift is an idol and an influence to a wide demographic across the globe. However, as she makes poor decisions regarding energy conservation, people are questioning her morals, causing a drift in the connection that people feel with Taylor Swift.
