The Jonas Brothers were at the height of their popularity in 2013, thanks to their appearances on the Disney Channel television network. Yet fans were left starstruck on October 9, 2013 as the brothers cancelled their 19-city fall tour just days before it was scheduled to begin.
“There is a deep rift within the band,” the group’s representative explained at the time. “There was a big disagreement over their music direction.”
On October 29, 2013, the brothers officially announced their split, canceling the release of their fifth studio album, LiVe.
“The album will actually not be completed. We’re going to release four unreleased songs from the album. The rest of the album will be never released,” Kevin Jonas said.
The brothers instead decided to fill the album with 10 songs from their summer tour and four of the songs that originally would have been on the album.
Each brother went down their own path after the breakup during the following six years. Nick Jonas managed to successfully release several single albums. Kevin Jonas formed his own band called DNCE and Joe Jonas starred in his own tv show called Married to Jonas.
During The Late Late Show with James Corden on March 7, the brothers shared that they first started discussing the possibility of reuniting the band when they were filming a documentary together and the producers had forced the brothers to take group therapy sessions.
During those sessions, the rift between the brothers started to heal and all of the brothers also seemed to agree on who was to blame originally for the breakup of the band during a seemingly great time in their careers.
“I broke the band up, but I got them back together,” Nick Jonas said on Carpool Karaoke.
“It’s true, it was a full redemptive story,” Kevin Jonas said.
While there were previously a lot of rumors circulating the internet that the brothers were planning on getting back together, they decided to officially announce their reunion on February 28, 2019, via their reactivated band social media account. Releasing a new hit single, Sucker, the following day on March 1, 2019.
Their new song sends a clear message to the rest of the music industry that the Jonas Brothers are back and here to stay, especially considering the fact that Sucker has reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in the band’s history. This is an impressive accomplishment for any band, especially for one that recently reunited.
The Billboard Hot 100 is widely considered the standard record chart for the entire music industry. The Billboard’s Hot 100 ranking system calculates a top song of the week, every week, based on sales, radio play and online streaming within the U.S. for each individual song.
The brother’s new song also features their significant others: Nick’s wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Joe’s fiancée Sophie Turner and Kevin’s wife Danielle Jonas. As all of the brothers can be seen partying and dancing with their significant others in fancy clothing in an undisclosed European castle during the music video.
The Jonas Brothers are also planning on coming out with a new album sometime in the upcoming months. On March 1, 2019, the brothers went onto the Elvis Duran Show and discussed their new songs.
“We have probably 30, 40 songs recorded that we can’t wait to release. So I think that in the next few months we’re probably gonna hear more,” Joe Jonas said.
So for better or for worse, the Jonas Brothers have finally reunited. So make sure to watch out for more of the latest news from the Jonas Brothers!
