As fall is coming to a close and the temperature starts to drop, the holidays appear right around the corner. Holiday lovers are looking forward to a cozy night in and binging holiday movies while partaking in all the fun holiday festivities and traditions. A vital part of the holiday season is the movies. Rewatching the same set of movies annually will bring back the comforting memories of the holidays for most people.

Binging movies during fall is a popular tradition for all with some series becoming fan favorites to revisit. Streaming the “Harry Potter” movies during the holidays has been known to be very common. Though “Harry Potter’’ is not the typical spirited Christmas story,  it has that element of comfort people look for in movies to get into the holiday spirit.

“I love to watch ‘Harry Potter’ during the holidays because of the Yule Ball in ‘Goblet of Fire,’” FHS senior Allysa Joyce said. “It really sets the mood for the winter season.”

For the past two decades, Freeform, a streaming service,  has streamed all of the “Harry Potter” movies, which are available to view on air.

“My family and I sit in the living room with hot cocoa and watch ‘Harry Potter’ for hours on end. It really brings back the holiday season as a child,” Joyce said.

“Harry Potter” was released around the same time, so even though the series does not have a Christmas plot, most associate the series with the holidays. The Disney Channel shows that have existed for years, however, are even more festive than “Harry Potter.” Disney Channel shows’ holiday specials continue to surge in popularity every year around the winter season. Many people correlate these movies and the holidays. When wanting to relive those nostalgic childhood memories, many will often gravitate back to Disney shows as they are a lighthearted reminder of the past for many.

“Every Christmas I would make a list of old Disney Channel shows I liked, specifically for the Christmas specials,” Joyce said. “These specials brought back many wistful feelings of joy and excitement.”

A big part of the holidays is the carefree time spent with loved ones and the positive spirits around. Whether it is cuddling up in bed and binge-watching Christmas episodes from your favorite shows or watching a Christmas movie with your loved ones, the holidays can be a magical and nostalgic time.
