Fans are raving about the new “Bridgerton” spin-off, “Queen Charlotte.” The Shondaland miniseries goes back in time, and focuses on the love story between King George and Queen Charlotte.

Season One’s six episodes were released on Netflix on May 4, 2023. The series still claims all the regal dazzle and charm of the main “Bridgerton” series. The historical drama follows Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George (Corey Mylchreest) in a tragic love story that captures the essence of regency-era drama. The story beautifully ties in with the original series’ and portrays George’s mental deterioration that fans saw in “Bridgerton” Season Two.

The first episode opens to Charlotte, on her wedding day, and her brother, Adolphus, riding to the palace. Immediately, Charlotte is thrown into the high stakes world of British royalty and the upper crust of society. George’s mental woes begin to interfere with their happiness, and Charlotte realizes just how influential their marriage is for the health of the ton. The series is both heartwarming, devastating and filled with the bits of wit and humor that “Bridgerton” is famous for.

“Queen Charlotte” also offers a peak at other fan-favorite characters younger selves such as Lady Danburry (Arsema Thomas) and Violet Bridgerton (Connie Jenkins-Greig). The series flashes back and forth between the “Bridgerton” timeline and “Queen Charlotte,” starring the current and past versions of the characters. It reveals riveting secrets from the characters’ pasts and plots diverging from the “Bridgerton” path. Fans were quick to fall in love with the growing dynamic between Lady Danburry and Violet Bridgerton, as well as, the side romance storyline between the Charlotte’s and George’s valets Brimsley and Reynolds.

So far “Queen Charlotte” has been on Netflix’s top ten and has gathered much attention on social media, both for the show’s brilliance and hilarious PR interviews. There’s no confirmation of a second season yet for “Queen Charlotte.” But, for now, season one is definitely a must-watch for fans of “Bridgerton.”
