With the school year coming to an end and the days getting warmer, its clear that summer has arrived. After the grind for AP tests and finals, students are eager to travel for the summer. Here is a list of five must-see countries to consider for your summer travels.

First up, Spain. Home to stunning architecture and mouth-watering cuisine, it is no surprise that it is one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. Granada’s Alhambra — an ancient, sprawling palace — and Seville’s Alcazar Castle are just two examples of the ancient and beautiful architectural feats all over Spain. Next, the Prado in Spain’s capital city of Madrid is another great destination. The Prado Museum boasts over 7,600 paintings and other art pieces, including Picassos. Finally, everyone must try Paella or Gazpacho at one of the many restaurants in Madrid, Barcelona or downtown Seville.

Australia — although the world’s smallest continent — has tons of activities perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors. It is home to the Great Barrier Reef, a one-of-a-kind coral reef off the east coast. Visitors can take tours in glass bottom boats, marveling at the abundant sea life. Alternatively, people are allowed to scuba dive or snorkel and see the reefs close-up, along with coming into contact with other marine animals. However, if the ocean is not for you, you can go climbing in the Australian outback, or skydive in Byron Bay. From exploring the Australian outback to surfing in the Pacific, there is a lot to see and do on this vast continent.

Japan is a wonderful country known worldwide for its unique culture and customs. With alluring botanical gardens and cherry blossoms lining many street corners in the spring, the natural beauty of the country is clear from the get-go. The country’s crown jewel — Mount Fuji — features multiple magnificent sights that will definitely take your breath away. Next, Japan’s architecture is some of the most unique and beautiful in the world.

Turkey, a country in West Asia, is home to some of the most complex and magnificent architecture in the world. One must-see destination is the Hagia Sophia, a stunning domed mosque in Istanbul. Tourists can marvel at the ancient Byzantine landmark and view other historical artifacts to their heart’s desire. In addition to this architectural feat, Turkey boasts vast underground cities, built centuries ago to protect inhabitants from foreign invaders. The Basilica Cistern, one of the largest cisterns that were used to store water in the time of the Byzantines, is something that you absolutely should not forget to see. Finally, the Grand Bazaar — one of the largest markets in the world — is a definite must to pick up something to commemorate your trip.

With breathtaking scenery, delicious food, and an abundance of wildlife, Thailand’s chaotic charm will not disappoint. Some must-see natural wonders include Thi Lo Su Waterfall and Erawan National Park. On top of that, shopping at CentralWorld Mall in Bangkok is a necessity. Home to over 500 stores, a five-star hotel and a 15-screen cinema, it is the ninth biggest shopping mall in the world. Finally, make sure to check out any of the multitudes of restaurants in Bangkok for a taste of some delicious Thai food.
