Shootings in America are getting out of hand

Shootings have been a problem for decades. Many innocent people are losing their lives due to a lack of gun control. If mass shootings have happened for so long, shouldn’t this problem be solved by now? There’s been more than one mass shooting per day on average this year. According to the New York Times, 16 of the 20 most deadly mass shootings in modern history have occurred in the last 20 years. Gun violence has only gotten worse every year, with each having more shootings than the last. 

One of the worst recent shootings was on April 15, 2021: Indianapolis, eight dead. A shooter shot and murdered eight individuals at a FedEx office on Thursday night. Specialists on Friday said that the shooter, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Gap of Indiana, started shooting individuals within the parking lot and after that he went into a frenzy and entered the building. Authorities did not promptly discharge the names of the casualties. The motives for the shooting remain beneath examination. The shooter committed suicide before police went into the building. 

One of the worst mass shootings to ever occur was on the evening of October 1, 2017. Stephen Enclosure, a 64-year-old man from Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire upon the swarm going to the Course 91 Collect music celebration on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. Between 10:05 and 10:15 p.m. PDT, he shot more than 1,000 rounds of ammo from his 32nd floor suites within the Mandalay Narrows Inn, which slaughtered 60 people and injured 411. Almost an hour afterward, Enclosure was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunfire wound. His thought process remains formally undetermined. The occurrence is the deadliest mass shooting committed by a person in advanced United States history. It centered attention on gun laws within the U.S., especially with respect to bump stocks, which Enclosure utilized to fire shots in quick progression, at a rate of fire comparable to programmed weapons. As a result, bump stocks were prohibited by the U.S. Equity Office in December 2018, with the control in impact as of March 26, 2019.

The amount of mass shootings have gone up almost 73% in 2021. And with no changes being made to gun laws, the shootings aren’t stopping. With the purchase age of a gun being 18 in most states, this makes them relatively accessible, especially since many places don’t even bother to do a background check. Many people are fighting for more gun control to hopefully stop the ever increasing amount of mass shootings that have occurred  in recent years.
