Technology has become a major part of our daily lives. With the prevalence of technology and its high usage rates, one might think that technology is impeding people’s relationships and indirectly forcing them apart. However, this is quite the opposite.
Before the era of instant communication, there was much more of a challenge to communicate or contact other people. Today, you can directly talk to someone through the click of a button. Though it is something people take for granted, being able to communicate with almost anyone from almost anywhere is an amazing thing that brings people together.
Another benefit of technology is that you can spend time with people without actually meeting in person. Just like it is possible to communicate with people, it is possible for one to play games or do other activities with people on the internet. If a person wishes to spend time with a close friend whom they cannot directly access, they can do it through technology.
Additionally, if one wishes to meet with someone, technology allows for better event planning. It is much easier to coordinate through using technology, as well as accommodating for any changes that need to be made. For example, if one wishes to meet at a friend’s house, this can be easily communicated. If something comes up, these plans can be changed or canceled. Without technology, if something came up, there would be no way to communicate the issue. Furthermore, it is possible to advertise events to massive groups of people, allowing for entire communities to be brought together in things such as conventions.
Not only does technology allow friends to interact remotely, technology can allow people to form new connections with those of similar interests. Entire communities exist online, centered around varying topics. People who play certain games can find other people to play with and make new friends in the process. This is true on both the large and small scale; the hero shooter Marvel Rivals has a Discord community with over 4 million members which allows people to find new friends and build connections, and many smaller gaming communities exist where groups of people become tight-knit friends. Technology allows for people who would never have met otherwise to become close friends.
One thing about the internet is that it creates anonymity between people. It is true that this creates a layer of separation between life and the internet. However, this anonymity does not hinder connection. Although it can be difficult to know who a person truly is on the internet, this anonymity allows people to be able to share the things that they would never say to other people. This can allow people to feel more connected and also better about being able to open up.
It is easy to say that technology takes up time that could easily be spent with other people. Although it is true that things such as social media and short-form content take up a lot of time, these things also serve to bring connection in their own way. Instead of doing something that is completely isolated from other people, several apps, such as Instagram allow for people to see the content that their friends interact with and to share and chat with friends.
Technology is a great tool that brings people together. Every day, people communicate, plan and spend time together using their phones or the internet. The sheer prevalence and usefulness of such technology is something that cannot be understated which also brings great benefit to the world.
